Deer can be a big problem in residential neighbourhoods, munching away at beautiful and often expensive plants, trees, bushes and flowers leaving not much more then twigs in the ground. Each City and Municipality has bylaws on the maximum height of fencing allowed within an area. Different areas within a city can also have different restrictions. Often the maximum height of fencing allowed in neighbourhoods is 6’ high, but some neighbourhoods have their own restrictions regarding fencing types and heights. It is best to check with your bylaw office to find out the height allowed in your area. Deer are able to jump very high; a 4’, 5’ or even 6’ high fence are no real match to most deer if they want in badly enough, but it’s often enough to send them in a different direction.
